The central part depicts a scene from the second task of the Triwizard Tournament: three hostages are tied at the bottom of the black lake, with merpeople on the left grabbing one of the tournament participants. Above the mermaid's tail are the Latin letters 'PM'. To the right, horizontal English text reads 'HARRY POTTER'. Around the circumference along the rim are inscriptions in English: at the top 'HARRY POTTER', at the bottom in two lines '1 CROWN'.
Obverse
In the center is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom wearing a crown. In the truncation of the portrait are the initials of the British sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley - 'IRB'. Around the edge of the coin are inscriptions in English: on the left the monarch's name 'ELIZABETH II', on the right the name of the British Crown Dependency 'ISLE OF MAN' and the year of issue '2005'. At the beginning of each inscription is the heraldic symbol of the Isle of Man – a triskelion. Along the rim are decorative raised denticles.
