    In the central part, a large numeral 2 on the left, with the English inscription 'EURO' to its right, translating to '2 Euro'. Below the letter 'O' is the engraver's mark of Luc Luycx 'LL'. The inscription is placed over the outlines of a map of Europe. Six vertical parallel lines extend upwards and downwards from it, ending with 12 stars.

    Around the circumference of the outer ring, 12 stars of the European Union are evenly spaced. Along the edge of the inner disc are inscriptions in Italian: at the top 'XXVI' and the abbreviation 'G.M.G.', translating to '26th World Youth Day', at the bottom — the name of the issuing state Vatican 'CITTA' DEL VATICANO'. In the central part, young people are depicted holding the flags of the Vatican and Spain and the event's logo — a stylized crown. Below the crown is the year of issue '2011', between the human figures the letter 'R' — the mint mark of the Rome mint. Near the edge of the disc are the marks: on the left — the engraver Maria Carmela Colaneri 'M.C.C. INC.', at the bottom — the artist Orietta Rossi 'O.ROSSI'.
