    In the central part, a gold weight figurine of the Akan-Ashanti people. To its left is the numeral: 1, to its right - the abbreviation "F.", which from French stands for: franc. Around the edge of the coin is an inscription in French: "BANQUE CENTRALE DES ETATS DE L'AFRIQUE DE L'OUEST" - Central Bank of the West African States, separated by a dot and the mintmarks of the Paris Mint: an owl and a cornucopia.

    In the central part, within a wreath of corn, a gazelle's head. Below it the year of issue: 1962. To its left is the lettering "G.B.L. BAZOR" - the mark of the Chief Engraver of the Paris Mint, Lucien Georges Bazor. Around the edge of the coin is a raised ornamental border, executed in the form of grape clusters and peanut pods.
