Reverse The central part features a branch with leaves and three fruits of the Ackee tree, one of which has opened. Below the image is the numeral 1. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in English: at the top 'LET US PRODUCE MORE FOOD', at the bottom 'ONE CENT', with a dot on each side of the inscriptions.
Obverse The center features the Coat of Arms of Jamaica: a heraldic shield with a red cross and five pineapples, above the shield a crocodile on a log, at the base of the arms the motto in English 'Out of many, one people', flanking the shield are supporters: on the left a woman with a basket of fruit, on the right a man with a bow. Along the rim are inscriptions: at the top the name of the island nation in English - 'JAMAICA', at the bottom the year of issue '1971'.
