  • Reverse
    The edge of the coin features decorative raised dots. The design is a stylization of the reverse of an ancient coin. Along the rim is the inscription 'REGIS PORTVGALENSVM', meaning 'King of the Portuguese'. In the center, the king is depicted on horseback with a raised, unsheathed sword. Below the horse is the artist's signature, Rui Vasquez, and the abbreviation 'INCM' — the mintmark of the Lisbon Mint.
  • Obverse
    The edge of the coin features decorative raised dots. The central part replicates the obverse of the gold morabitino. Along the rim is the name of the issuing state, the Portuguese Republic, in Portuguese: 'REPÚBLICA PORTUGUESA'; the beginning and end of the inscription are separated at the top by a raised dot. Within a central linear circle, five petals form a flower. In the break of the outer linear circle, the inscription '1,50€' ('one and a half euro') is at the top, and the year of issue '2009' is at the bottom.
