Along the upper edge of the coin from left to right runs the text in French: «UNION MONETAIRE OUEST-AFRICAINE» - West African Monetary Union, framed by dots; below is the «JP. PÉTHORÉ» mark, belonging to the artist Jean-Pierre Réthoré.

    In the central part, a gold weight figure of the Akan-Ashanti people (Taku). To its left is the «JP.R.» monogram - the mark of the Paris Mint artist Jean-Pierre Réthoré.
