In the central part, a two-line inscription in French: «1 FRANC 1995» - 1 franc 1995. Below it are the mintmarks of the Paris Mint - a wing and a cornucopia. Along the upper edge of the coin from left to right runs the text in French: «UNION MONETAIRE OUEST-AFRICAINE» - West African Monetary Union, framed by dots; below is the «JP. PÉTHORÉ» mark, belonging to the artist Jean-Pierre Réthoré.
Obverse
In the central part, a gold weight figure of the Akan-Ashanti people (Taku). To its left is the «JP.R.» monogram - the mark of the Paris Mint artist Jean-Pierre Réthoré. Around the edge of the coin is the inscription in French: «BANQUE CENTRALE ᴅᴇS ETATS ᴅᴇ L'AFRIQVE ᴅᴇ L'OUEST» - Central Bank of the West African States.
