    In the central part, within a wreath, a two-line inscription in Spanish reads '1 ¼ CENTAVOS' - one and a quarter centavo. Below it is a five-pointed star. To the left of the star is a cornucopia, to the right – a fasces (a bundle of rods with an axe), a symbol of authority. Below the wreath is the letter 'A' – the mint mark for the Paris Mint. The edge of the coin features decorative denticles.
  • Obverse
    In the central part is a depiction of a heraldic shield, divided by vertical and horizontal hatching into four quarters. In the center of the shield is an open book, above it a Christian cross. To the left, above, and to the right along the rim is the country name Dominican Republic in Spanish: 'REPUBLICA. DOMINICANA'. In the lower part, along the curve of the coin's edge and separated from the inscription by dots, is the year of issue 1888. The edge of the coin features decorative denticles.
