In the upper part of the field, a three-line inscription in German: '1/4 KREUZER'. In the lower part, the year of issue '1851', above it a geometric pattern: a central dot with radiating lines. Below, near the rim, the Latin letter 'E'. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.
Obverse
In the center, the coat of arms of the Austrian Empire: a double-headed eagle with wings spread, its heads crowned, above them the Crown of Saint Stephen. In its right talon, a sword and scepter; in its left, an orb. On its chest, the familial heraldic shield of Habsburg-Lorraine, encircled by a chain. Along the upper rim, an inscription in German: 'K∙K∙OESTERREICHISCHE SCHEIDEMÜNZE∙' (Imperial Royal Austrian Subsidiary Coin). The edge of the coin features denticles.
