In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, Arabic text: "قرش واحد" - "ONE QIRSH". In the center - a large numeral 1: "١". Below - the mint year: "١٣٧٨" - "1378" - according to the Hijri calendar or 1959 according to the Gregorian calendar.
Obverse
Along the rim, Arabic inscriptions: at the top: "ملك المملكة العربية السعودية" - "KING OF SAUDI ARABIA", at the bottom: "سعود بن عبد العزيز آل سعود" - "SAUD IBN ABDUL AZIZ AL SAUD". In the central part is the country's coat of arms - a palm tree over two crossed traditional swords.
