Along the lower rim, the French inscription: 'ETATS DE L'AFRIQUE DE L'OUEST' - States of West Africa.
  • Obverse
    In the central part, a gazelle's head, framed by a wreath of corn. Below it, the year of issue: 1972. To its left, the letters 'G.B.L. BAZOR' - the privy mark of the Chief Engraver of the Paris Mint, Lucien Georges Bazor. The coin's edge features a raised ornamental pattern of grape clusters and peanut pods.
