Inscriptions in French along the rim, at the top: "BANQUE CENTRALE" - "CENTRAL BANK", at the bottom: "ÉTATS DE L'AFRIQUE DE L'OUEST" - "WEST AFRICAN STATES". In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of a sawfish. To its right is the numeral: "5", to its left - the franc designation: "F.".
Obverse
At the top along the rim are depicted grape clusters on tree branches. At the bottom, left and right, are depicted ears of corn. Below them on the left is the artist's privy mark, Lucien Georges Bazor: "G.B.L. BAZOR". In the central part is a depiction of a Grant's gazelle head facing. At the bottom - the year of minting: "2002".
