    In the upper part, following the curve of the coin's edge, is the English text 'EAST AFRICA'. Below is the year of minting '1963', flanked on both sides by raised elongated diamond-shaped elements. In the central part above the hole is the numeral 5, with crossed tusks on either side.
  • Obverse
    Around the edge of the coin are decorative raised serrations. Following the curve of the coin's edge on the right, bottom, and left is the English text QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND. In the central part above the round hole is the Imperial State Crown. Below the hole is a two-line inscription 'FIVE CENTS'.
