From left to right the country name 'CITTA DEL VATICANO' (Vatican City), below the inscription 'FORTITUDO' (Fortitude). All inscriptions are in Italian.
Obverse In the central part, the coat of arms of the head of the Roman Catholic Church, Paul VI, consisting of a shield surmounted by the papal tiara, behind the shield crossed keys. Along the edge of the coin runs a Latin inscription 'PAVLVS VI PONTIFEX MAXIMVS A. III' (Paul VI Supreme Pontiff, 3rd year of his pontificate), with dots between the words. Below, near the rim, a six-petaled flower.
