In the upper part, following the curve of the coin's edge, the text 'MALIETOA TANUMAFILI II CAMOA I SISIFO' — Malietoa Tanumafili II, Head of the Independent State of Samoa and Sisifo. Below, the year of issue '1974'. The inscriptions are separated by two rosettes in the shape of a star. In the central part, the left-facing profile of Malietoa Tanumafili II. Below the neck truncation, the mint mark 'HP'.
