To the left are the abbreviations 'DG BRITT: OMN: REX FD IND: IMP:', meaning 'DEI GRATIA BRITANNIARUM OMNIUM REX FIDEI DEFENSOR INDIAE IMPERATOR' — 'By the Grace of God, King of All the Britains, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India'. Above is the British crown. Below is the inscription in Arabic وَاحِد پَنّي — 'half penny'. In the center is the English inscription 'ONE HALF PENNY'. Below the hole is the letter 'H' — the mint mark for Heaton, Birmingham.
