The central part features the coat of arms of Colombia. In the upper part, following the curve of the coin's edge, is text in Spanish: "CINCUENTA CENTAVOS" - fifty centavos. Along the curve of the left edge, the weight is indicated: "G.12,500"; on the right, the silver content is indicated: "LEI 0,500". Along the curve of the lower edge is an inscription in Spanish: "BOGOTA" - the Bogotá mint. The rim is decorated with a decorative element in the form of dentils.
Obverse
The central part depicts the head of Liberty facing left, wearing a headband with the Spanish inscription "Liberty" - "LIBERTAD". Below it is the date of issue - 1887, separated by dots from the other inscriptions. To the right, above, and to the left is an inscription in Spanish: "REPUBLICA DE COLOMBIA", which translates to "Republic of Colombia". The rim is decorated with a decorative element in the form of dentils.
