    In the central part, a dove (facing left) with an olive branch in its beak. Along the arc of the upper and lower edge, the state name in Italian "CITTA DEL VATICANO" (Vatican) and the inscription "L. 100" (100 lire), with seven-pointed stars between the words.

    In the central part, the coat of arms of the head of the Roman Catholic Church, Paul VI, depicting a shield surmounted by the papal tiara, with crossed keys behind the shield. Along the arc of the coin's edge from left to right runs the Latin text "PAVLVS VI P.M. A. XV MCMLXXVII" (Paul VI Supreme Pontiff 15th year of reign 1977), with seven-pointed stars between the words. In the lower part along the arc of the coin's edge is the artist's signature Tomas Gismondi - "T. Gismondi".
