The upper part of the coin features the imperial crown. Below it, on four lines, is the inscription: CHISTAGO SEREBRA 4 ZOLOTN. 21 DOLYA. Beneath this is a straight line and the designation 'S.P.B.' (Saint Petersburg Mint). Along the rim on the left is a laurel branch, and on the right an oak branch. The branches are tied together at the bottom with a ribbon. The edge of the coin is stamped with relief denticles.
  • Obverse
The center of the obverse is occupied by the lesser coat of arms of the Russian Empire – a double-headed eagle with wings spread. The eagle's heads bear crowns, and a third, larger crown is placed above and between them. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow – a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). Surrounding the shield is the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. In its right talon the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left – an orb. Under the right talon is the letter 'S', under the left – the letter 'P'. These are the initials of mintmaster Pavel Stupitsyn. To the left of the coat of arms is the circular inscription 'MONETA', to the right – 'RUBL'. Below the initials is the year of mintage '1818'. The inscriptions are separated from each other by three six-pointed stars. The rim is decorated with short denticles pointing towards the center.
