    Along the left and bottom edge of the coin, an inscription in Greek: «150 ΧΡΟΝΙΑ ΑΠΟ ΤΗ ΓΕΝΝΗΣΗ ΤΟΥ ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΟΥ ΚΑΒΑΦΗ», which translates to «150 YEARS SINCE THE BIRTH OF KONSTANTINOS KAVAFIS». To the right are the years «1863 - 2013». The central part features a bust portrait of Konstantinos Kavafis in right-facing profile. To the right of it is the Athens Mint mark (acanthus leaf), and below it, the poet's name in Greek: «Κ. Π. Καβάφης».

    An ancient Greek ornamental pattern runs along the coin's edge. Along the upper edge, the issuing country's name, Hellenic Republic, is inscribed in Greek: «ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΉ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΊΑ». The central part depicts an ancient ship, with a quote from Kavafis's work on its sail. To its right is the coat of arms of Greece. Below, on the ship, is the inscription «5 ΕΥΡΏ», meaning 'five euros' in Greek.
