In the central part - an inscription in 3 lines in Ottoman Turkish: "ضرب في مصر", which translates to: "STRUCK IN EGYPT". Below - in Indo-Arabic numerals: "۱۲۷۷" - the year 1277 AH (Islamic calendar) or 1861 AD - the year of the accession of the Ottoman Sultan Abdulaziz. Above - the number: "۱٠" - "10", meaning the 10th year of his reign or 1870 AD. Decorative raised denticles are arranged along the edge of the rim.
