Around the rim, the English inscription: BRITISH WEST AFRICA. Below, the year of issue '1942'. In the central part of the reverse is a raised design of a hexagram.
Obverse
Around the rim are decorative raised dots. On the left side, along the rim, the Latin inscription 'GEORGIVS VI', on the right 'REX ET IND: IMP:', translating to 'George VI King and Emperor of India'. In the central upper part is a crown, the symbol of British rulers. Below it, around the hole, the inscription 'ONE PENNY'. At the bottom, the denomination in Arabic: 'وَاحِد پَنّي'.
