Obverse
In the central part, a stylized flag of the Republic of Algeria: a crescent and a star (executed with vertical hatching). The star is located within a circle, with the year '1954' at its top and '1994' at its bottom. To the left of the star, the inscription 'نوفمبر' (November). In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, the text 'إندلاع الثورة التحريرية' (Outbreak of the Liberation Revolution), at the bottom 'الذكرى الأربعون' (40th Anniversary). All inscriptions are in Arabic, with five-pointed stars between them. The left part of the ring is executed with diagonal hatching.
