In the upper part, along the rim, is the Tongan text: "SILA O'TONGA", which translates to "COAT OF ARMS OF TONGA". In the center is the national emblem: a shield flanked left and right by flags, with a crown above. Below is the denomination inscription: "1 PA'ANGA".

In the center is a portrait of King of Tonga Tāufaʻāhau Tupou V wearing a crown. In the upper part, along the rim, is his name in Tongan: "TUPOU V". Below is the country name in English and the year of issue: "TONGA 2015".
