Reverse
In the central part is a deer. Below it is the year of issue: 1990. Near the front hooves is the letter 'KG' - the mark of the designer of the Royal Mint of Great Britain, George Kruger Gray. Along the arc of the left edge of the coin is the country name in English, framed by dots: 'MAURITIUS'. On the right is an inscription, separated by dots: 'HALF RUPEE'. Along the edge of the coin is a toothed (reeded) relief.
Obverse
In the central part is the bust of the first Prime Minister of Mauritius, Seewoosagur Ramgoolam. Around the edge of the coin is text in English: 'DR THE RIGHT HONOURABLE SIR SEEWOOSAGUR RAMGOOLAM KT X'. The edge of the coin features relief elements in the form of teeth (denticles).
