    In the central part, against the background of a cross, is the middle coat of arms of Portugal: an armillary sphere, within which is the lesser coat of arms of the country. To the right, above, and to the left is the name of the state 'REPUBLIC OF PORTUGAL' in Portuguese 'REPÚBLICA•PORTUGUESA'. Below is the year of minting '1973', framed by flowers. The edge is decorated with decorative teeth.

    In the central part is the coat of arms of the Portuguese colony of Guinea-Bissau: an armillary sphere with five towers; on the sphere is a heraldic shield, in the left half of which are five shields, in the right - a Moor's head on a staff, below - waves. In the upper part, along the arc of the coin's edge, is the name of the colony 'Guinea' in Portuguese - 'GUINE', below 10 escudos - '10$00', to the left and right are relief flowers. The edge of the coin has decorative raised teeth.
