In the central part, the coat of arms of Ghana. To its left and right are the numbers 19 and 97 respectively, indicating the year of issue: 1997. Along the upper edge arc is the numeral: 20, below it the inscription in English: "CEDIS", framed by four decorative patterns.
Obverse
In the central part, an image of a seashell. Around the edge of the coin is the motto in English, separated by dots: "GHANA FREEDOM AND JUSTICE". The rim of the coin features raised elements in the form of denticles.
