In the central part - the numeral 1: "١". To the left and right of it, the inscription 'one lira' in Arabic: "ليرة واحدة". Along the upper edge arc, the country name in Arabic: "الجمهورية العربية السورية" - "SYRIAN ARAB REPUBLIC". Along the rim edges is a decorative raised pattern of rectangles.
Obverse
In the central part is the country's coat of arms - the 'Hawk of Quraish' with a shield on its chest, holding in its talons a ribbon with an inscription in Arabic: "الجمهورية العربية السورية" - "SYRIAN ARAB REPUBLIC". Below - the year of minting according to the Hijri calendar: "١٣٩٩" - "1399" and the Gregorian calendar: "١٩٧٩" - "1979". Along the rim edges is a decorative raised pattern of rectangles.
