Reverse In the central part, a left-facing image: a seated woman pouring water from a jug into a bowl (jug in her right hand, bowl in her left). To the right the year of issue "1965", to the left the inscription "L∙1" (1 lira). From left to right the country name in Italian "CITTA DEL VATICANO" (Vatican), below an inscription in Latin "TEMPERANTIA" (Temperance).
Obverse In the central part is the coat of arms of the head of the Roman Catholic Church, Paul VI, consisting of a shield surmounted by the papal tiara, behind the shield crossed keys. Along the edge of the coin runs the text in Latin "PAVLVS VI PONTIFEX MAXIMVS A. III" (Paul VI Supreme Pontiff, 3rd year of his pontificate), with dots between the words. At the beginning of the legend is a six-pointed star.
