    In the central part, a loon is depicted facing forward, its head turned to the right, with two chicks: one on its back (to the right), the other on its left side (to the left). Below is a stylized reflection of the birds. To the left of the reflection are the Latin letters 'AN' - the artist's mark of Arnold Nogy; to the right, horizontally in two lines, are the years of the first and anniversary issues '1987-2012'. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in English: at the top the country name 'CANADA', at the bottom the inscription 'DOLLAR'.

    In the center is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. In the truncation of the portrait are the Latin letters 'SB' - the artist's mark of Susanna Blunt. To the right and left of the portrait, the Latin inscription is split into two parts: on the right - 'ELIZABETH II', on the left - 'D∙ G∙ REGINA' (Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen). Around the circumference along the rim are decorative raised dots.
