Along the upper edge of the coin, an Arabic inscription: "البنك المركزي الجزائري", which translates to: "CENTRAL BANK OF ALGERIA". In the central part, a large numeral: "5", below it the word for dinars in Arabic: "دنانير". Along the lower edge of the coin.

In the central part, the symbol of Algeria is depicted: a crescent moon and star held by hands. Below them: a fragment of a cogwheel and a wheat ear. To the right and left of the image are the dates: "1954" and "1984". Along the rim at the top and bottom are 15 five-pointed stars each.
