    A six-pointed star is inscribed around the central hole. The legend 'BRITISH WEST AFRICA' runs along the upper edge from left to right. The mint year '1947' is at the bottom, flanked on each side by a dot. The rim is decorated with ornamental denticles.

    Central hole. Around it, the denomination 'ONE HALFPENNY' in English above and 'نُصْف پَنّي' (Half Penny) in Arabic below. Beneath the hole is the mint mark 'H' (Heaton Mint, Birmingham). Along the rim, split into two parts, the Latin legend 'GEORGIVS VI' on the left and 'REX ET IND: IMP:' (George VI King and Emperor of India) on the right, with a stylized ornament below each part. A crown, symbol of the British Empire, is at the top. The edge is decorated with raised ornamental denticles.
