In the central part, the Imperial Seal. Along the upper edge arc, the emperor's name in Japanese: "錢五" - Meiji. Along the lower edge arc, an inscription in English, framed by dots: "5 SEN" - 5 sen. The coin's rim features tooth-like elements.
Obverse
In the central part, within a circle of dots, a Japanese inscription: "五" - 5. From right to left along the rim are Japanese inscriptions: at the top - the year of mintage - "年四十二治明" - Year 24 (1891), at the bottom - the country name - "本日大" - Great Japan. The coin's edge features raised toothed elements.
