    In the central part is a left-facing profile portrait in a wreath. Below the neck truncation is the engraver's signature of Marcelino Norte de Almeida 'NORTE D'ALMEIDA', on the left the mint year '1981'. Along the rim are inscriptions in Portuguese: on the left - 'LIBERDADE' (Freedom), on the right - 'DEMOCRACIA' (Democracy).
