Reverse
In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of two football players in action. To their left is the year 1988, above which is the mintmark of the Havana mint. In the upper part, along the rim, is the Spanish text: «XIII CAMPEONATO MUNDIAL DE FUTBOL», which translates to «XIII FIFA World Cup». Along the lower rim is the location and year of the event: «MEXICO 1986» in Spanish.
Obverse
In the central part is the coat of arms of the Republic of Cuba. Above it is the Spanish inscription: «REPUBLICA DE CUBA», meaning «Republic of Cuba». In the lower part, along the rim, is the Spanish inscription: «1 PESO». To the left and right of the coat of arms, along the edge, are two five-pointed stars.
