    In the central part, a large numeral 2 on the left, with the English inscription 'EURO' to its right, translating to '2 Euro'. Below the letter 'O' is the engraver's mark of Luc Luycx 'LL'. The inscription is placed over the outlines of a map of Europe. Six vertical parallel lines extend upwards and downwards from it, ending in 12 stars.

    Around the entire circumference of the outer ring, 12 stars of the European Union are evenly spaced. Along the edge of the inner disc, on the right, bottom, and left, are inscriptions: in Latin: 'BENEDICTI XVI P.M.ÆTATIS ANNO LXXX', translating to '80 years of Pope Benedict XVI', and in Italian: 'CITTA’ DEL VATICANO' — the name of the issuing state, Vatican. The inscriptions are separated by a raised dot. In the central part is the left-facing profile of Benedict XVI. To his left is the letter 'R' — the mint mark of the Rome Mint, below it the year of issue '2007'. Along the clothing on the left is the engraver's mark of Maria Carmela Colaneri 'MCC INC.', and to the right above the shoulder is the mark of the artist Daniela Longo 'LONGO'.
