    Central composition: the Tablets of the Law, separated at the top and bottom by two ropes. To the left and right of it are Latin inscriptions: 'MAN' and 'DATA' respectively, meaning: to be returned. Along the lower edge arc is the letter R - the mintmark of the Rome Mint - and the Italian inscription: 'L.200' - 200 lire. Along the upper edge arc is the country name in two lines: 'CITTA' DEL VATICANO' - Vatican City. The edge of the coin features raised elements in the form of dots.

    Central bust portrait of Pope John Paul II. To his right is the letter VEROL - the mark of the artist Guido Veroi. Along the edge arc of the coin, from left to right, runs a Latin text and the year of issue written in Roman numerals: 'IOANNES PAVLVS II P.M.A.XV.MCMXCIII' - John Paul II, Supreme Pontiff, 15th year, 1993. Along the rim is a dotted relief.
