    Inscriptions in French along the rim, at the top: "BANQUE CENTRALE", at the bottom: "ÉTATS DE L'AFRIQUE DE L'OUEST", which translates to "CENTRAL BANK" and "STATES OF WEST AFRICA". In the central part is a sawfish. To its right is the numeral: 5, to its left the letter designation for franc: "F.".
  • Obverse
    At the top along the rim are depicted grape clusters on vine branches. At the bottom, left and right, are ears of corn. Below them on the left: "G.B.L. BAZOR" - the designer's mark, Lucien Georges Bazor. In the central part is the facing head of a Grant's gazelle. Below it is the year of minting: 1971.
