  • Reverse
In the upper part of the reverse is the crown of the Russian Empire. Below it, the denomination and monetary unit are indicated on two lines: 20 KOPĒEKЪ. Next is a divider element consisting of two oppositely directed lines with a bordered dot between them. Below the divider is the year of minting '1848'. Under the year is the abbreviation 'S.P.B.' (Saint Petersburg Mint). In the left part of the coin, along the edge, is a laurel branch, and in the right part, an oak branch. At the base, the branches are tied with a ribbon forming a neat bow. Raised denticles are struck along the entire edge of the coin.
  • Obverse
In the central part is depicted the State Emblem of the Russian Empire – a double-headed eagle, its heads crowned with two coronets, a third, larger crown above them. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow – a shield with St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). Around the shield is the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called. On the wings are depicted the titular coats of arms: on the right – Kazan, Astrakhan, and Siberian; on the left – Polish, Taurican, and Finnish. In the eagle's talons are a scepter and an orb. Below the talons are the initials 'H' and 'I', indicating Mintmaster Nikolai Iossa. The rim is decorated with denticles pointing towards the center.
