    The central part features a kangaroo, the national symbol of Australia. Below it is the year of issue: 1946. To its right is a seven-pointed star. Along the upper edge is the country name in English: 'AUSTRALIA'. Along the lower edge is the text in English: 'HALF PENNY'. To its left is the initials 'KG' - the designer's mark of George Kruger Gray of the Melbourne Mint. The rim of the coin features raised elements in the form of dots.

    The central part features the left-facing profile of King George VI of Great Britain. Around the edge of the coin is an inscription in Latin: 'GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP.' - George VI by the Grace of God King of all the Britains, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India. Along the rim is a dotted relief pattern.
