    In the central part, a Triskelion – the heraldic symbol of the Isle of Man, depicting three legs bent at the knee, running to the left, emerging from a single center, equally spaced from each other. Along the upper edge of the coin, the national motto in Latin 'QUOCUNQUE IECERIS STABIT' (Whichever way you throw it, it will stand). Dots between the words. The coin's edge features raised denticles.
  • Obverse
    In the center, a fragment of the family coat of arms of the Earls of Derby – a crest. It consists of an ermine cap, above which an eagle to the left with spread wings, preying upon an infant swaddled in cloth. Along the denticulated border, inscriptions: at the top in French 'SANS CHANGER' (Without change), flanked on both sides by a dot, and at the bottom the year of minting '1709'.
