Obverse
Along the rim are 12 five-pointed stars, symbolizing the eurozone countries. On the left, the name of the issuing country in Italian 'CITTA' DEL VATICANO' – 'Vatican City'. On the right, the year of issue 2014 and the letter 'R' – the mintmark of the Mint of Rome. In the central part, a portrait of Pope Francis I facing forward and inscriptions in Italian: 'LDS INC' – the personal mark of engraver Luciana De Simoni and the signature of the artist O. Rossi 'O. ROSSI'.
