    At the top, following the curve of the coin's edge, is the Spanish text: 'BOGOTA' - indicating the Bogotá mint. In the center is the Spanish inscription: 'MEDIO DICIMO' - half decimo, surrounded by an oak wreath tied with ribbons. On both sides are the symbols of the god Mercury (caducei). Along the lower edge curve is the silver fineness: 'LEI 0,900'. The rim is decorated with decorative elements in the form of dentils.
  • Obverse
    To the right, top, and left is the Spanish inscription: 'NUEVA GRANADA', meaning 'New Granada'. In the center is a stylized depiction of an opened pomegranate fruit on a branch. On either side, crossing at the top, are cornucopias. At the bottom, along the curve of the coin's edge, is the date 1856, separated from the inscription by images of flower tops. The rim is decorated with decorative elements in the form of dentils.
