Along the upper edge arc, the name of Alkey Margulan in Kazakh: "Ә. МАРҒҰЛАН". To the right, a two-line horizontal inscription "100 / ЖЫЛ", translated as "100 YEARS". Below, the mint year "2004", from which a stylized image of rock art extends to the right. In the central part, a portrait of Academician Alkey Margulan, facing right in half-profile.

Along the rim, inscriptions in Kazakh: on the left "...ҚАЗАҚСТАН", on the right "ҰЛТТЫК БАНКI...", translated as "NATIONAL BANK OF KAZAKHSTAN". In the center, the national coat of arms: a shanyrak (the upper domed part of a yurt) in the form of a cross inscribed in a circle, from which support rays radiate, flanked by mythical winged horses, tulpars. Above, between the wings, a five-pointed star; below, the country name "KAZAKSTAN". Below the coat of arms, the large number 50, flanked on both sides by raised national ornaments; below it, the inscription "ТЕҢГЕ", highlighted with raised dot-like elements. To the right of the coat of arms, the "ҚҰБ" mintmark of the Kazakhstan Mint.
