Centered is the coat of arms of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea. It consists of a heraldic shield depicting a silk-cotton tree (bombax), above the shield six six-pointed stars are arranged in an arc, and at the base is the motto in Spanish 'UNIDAD PAZ Y JUSTICIA' (Unity, Peace and Justice). The coat of arms divides the mint year '1996' into two parts: '19' on the left and '96' on the right. The coin's edge has teeth, along which are Spanish inscriptions: on the left, top, and right the country name 'REPUBLICA DE GUINEA ECUATORIAL' (Republic of Equatorial Guinea), at the bottom the inscription '1000 FRANCOS' (1000 Francs).
