To the left of the head is the numeral 5, to the right the inscription 'FR.S' - francs. Around the edge, the country name in French: 'TERRITOIRE FRANÇAIS DES AFARS ET DES ISSAS' - French Territory of the Afars and Issas.

    In the central part, the left-facing profile of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, against a background of ships in a harbor. Below it, the artist's signature 'L.BAZOR' - Lucien Georges Bazor.
