Reverse
In the central part of the reverse, a relief image of Fidel Castro with comrades celebrating victory. Above them the year of issue 1989, below the year the Havana mint mark. Along the upper edge arc, framed by dots, an inscription in Spanish: «TRIUNFO DE LA REVOLUCION», translated as «Triumph of the Revolution». Along the lower edge arc the years 1959-1989.
Obverse
In the central part, the coat of arms of the Republic of Cuba. Above, an inscription in Spanish: «REPUBLICA DE CUBA», translated as «Republic of Cuba». In the lower part, along the edge arc of the coin, an inscription in Spanish: «1 PESO». To the left and right of the coat of arms along the rim are two five-pointed stars.
