In the central part, there is an oil rig against an ocean background. Below it is the denomination designation of 10 dollars: "$10". Along the upper edge of the coin is the inscription: "BRUNEI INDEPENDENCE 1984", on the left in English: "BRUNEI INDEPENDENCE 1984", on the right in Arabic: "كمرديكأن بروني ١٤٠٤". The edges of the rim feature a decorative raised pattern of rectangles.
Obverse
Along the upper edge of the coin is text in Malay: "SULTAN HAJI HASSANAL BOLKIAH". In the central part is a frontal portrait of the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah.
