In the central part of the reverse is a relief design facing right: Britannia seated on a lion, holding a trident in her right hand, her left hand extended forward holding an olive branch, a shield at her feet bearing the country's flag. In the upper part, along the edge of the coin, the English text 'NEW PENCE', below the number 50.
Obverse
In the central part is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain wearing a crown. Inscriptions along the rim: on the left in Latin 'D. G. REG. F. D.' (Dei Gratia Regina Fidei Defensor / By the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith) and the year of minting '1971', on the right the monarch's name - 'ELIZABETH II'.
