In the upper part, following the curve of the coin's edge, is the English text: "SARAWAK". Below it is the year of issue: "1879". The central part features a wreath of olive branches, inside which is the denomination in two lines: "HALF CENT". Below it is the Heaton mint mark: "H". Decorative raised denticles are placed along the rim.
Obverse
The central part features a left-facing portrait of Charles Brooke. Along the rim are English inscriptions: on the left, "C. BROOK", and "RAJAH". Decorative raised denticles are placed along the rim.
