    In the central part, there is a bell with an inscription in Ukrainian: 'CHORNOBYL' - Chernobyl. On either side of it are birds taking flight: three on the left, two on the right. Along the upper edge of the coin from left to right is an inscription in Ukrainian: 'TRAGEDIYA.PODVYH.ZASTEREZHENNYA', which translates to 'Tragedy. Heroism. Warning'. Along the lower edge is a curved ribbon with the inscription: '1986-1996'.

    In the central part, within a circle of dots, is the coat of arms of Ukraine framed by two branches with leaves and berries. Above the coat of arms is the year of minting, 1996. Below the coat of arms is a two-line semicircular inscription: '200 000 KARBOVANTSIV' - 200 thousand Karbovanets. To the left, above, and to the right along the rim, separated on each side by a decorative vignette, is an inscription in Ukrainian: 'NATSIONALNYI BANK UKRAINY', which translates to 'National Bank of Ukraine'.
